It was said by God that David, who was king over Israel, was a man after His own heart. (Acts 13:22) David was given the Spirit of God who had miraculously moved him to foretell of the coming of Jesus Christ. David wrote this message of Jesus the Messiah to come in the Psalms about 1,000 years before it happened. One of these writings will be given a little later in this article.

Paul, also inspired by God like David, wrote that the faith of Christians is to rest on the power of God not on the wisdom of men. (1 Corinthians 2:4-5)

A Christian's faith is not a 'leap of faith'. For this phrase implies that the truthfulness of that which is believed, cannot be proved or is outside the boundaries of reason. Both of these are not the case regarding the faith of a Christian in a general sense of the standard of 'proof' used and of reason.

In civilized courts of law 'testimony' is considered a body of information indicating whether something witnessed or testified to should be believed or be persuaded to believe as true. It is evidence or proof.

Interesting that we practice this legal system in arriving to some truth and therefore a basis for faith; but when it comes to religious matters, many people's minds turn off this approved system of reasoning.

Don't be deceived by people who are unfair, two-faced and hypocritical regarding acquiring information of persuasive value towards faith.

We should be ready to believe if there is sufficient and credible testimony or evidence of information contained in the Bible.

What is necessary is a heart that is not prejudiced or biased towards the testimony given and that all the information on a subject is provided.

Now we come to the information of David writing about the coming of Jesus. The scope of this article is NOT to provide all that is needed to understand the following passage, but to point to the time in which it was written (about 1,000 years before Jesus came the first time). Because it is a prophecy its truthfulness was revealed in its fulfillment. Only an almighty God has the power to look down the path of time and show mankind events to occur.

Psalms 2:1-12

1 Why are the nations in an uproar, And the peoples devising a vain thing?

2 The kings of the earth take their stand, And the rulers take counsel together Against the Lord and against His Anointed:

3 "Let us tear their fetters apart, And cast away their cords from us!"

4 He who sits in the heavens laughs, The Lord scoffs at them.

5 Then He will speak to them in His anger And terrify them in His fury:

6 "But as for Me, I have installed My King Upon Zion, My holy mountain."

7 "I will surely tell of the decree of the Lord: He said to Me, 'Thou art My Son, Today I have begotten Thee.

8 'Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Thine inheritance, And the very ends of the earth as Thy possession.

9 'Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron, Thou shalt shatter them like earthenware.'"

10 Now therefore, O kings, show discernment; Take warning, O judges of the earth.

11 Worship the Lord with reverence, And rejoice with trembling.

12 Do homage to the Son, lest He become angry, and you perish in the way, For His wrath may soon be kindled. How blessed are all who take refuge in Him! New American Standard Bible

It might appear that my article was written to strengthen the faith of the hearts of existing and educated Christians and to give hope to those who are searching or beginning to search the scriptures. However, if you are just beginning the search, whether you are a Christian or not, here is the fulfillment written in the following passages more than 1,000 years after David wrote it:

Acts 4:25-26

25 who by the Holy Spirit, through the mouth of our father David Thy servant, didst say, 'Why did the Gentiles rage, And the peoples devise futile things?

26 'The kings of the earth took their stand, And the rulers were gathered together  Against the Lord, and against His Christ.' New American Standard Bible

Hebrews 1:5

5 For to which of the angels did He ever say, "Thou art My Son, Today I have begotten Thee"? And again, "I will be a Father to Him  And He shall be a Son to Me"? New American Standard Bible

I have no answer except one as to how this event could have been spoken about 1,000 years before it occurred. David had to be endowed with a Spirit of an omnipotent and omniscient God to be able to foretell such specific events and then they occurred exactly as spoken.

My faith rests on God's power.

The lesson is very simple, summed up in what Jesus said, "From now on I am telling you before it comes to pass, so that when it does occur, you may believe that I am He." John 13:19 New American Standard Bible

In closing, the prophecies and fulfillments in the Bible concerning Jesus Christ, open the door to understanding that Jesus Christ is King and Lord, and is ruling right now at the right hand of God in the hearts and minds of His disciples that cover the whole world. These have given their lives to Him according to the gospel message, they are His - they serve Him above all other persons or institutions.
