Never let anyone tell you that you cannot understand the Bible. The word of God is for all mankind. It does not matter if you are educated or uneducated. It does not matter if you are rich or poor. It does not matter what occupation you may hold; whether you are a President or plumber, CEO or homemaker. You can understand the Bible.

The word of God was written or spoken to common man. It was not given only to the highly intellectual, or those who seemed to have special insight into philosophical questions. The word was given to farmers, fishermen, shepherds, tax collectors as well as teachers and physicians.

Religious people who want control of other peoples' lives will sometimes tell you that you cannot understand the Bible. That if you want to understand anything, you must consult their reverends, priests, bishops, preacher or Pope. However, Paul the apostle said, ". . . when you read you can understand my insight into the mystery of Christ." (Ephesians 3:4 NASB).Ethiopian eunuch

It is possible for you to understand, even though there may be some things hard to understand. Peter mentioned that with Paul's writings there are some things hard to understand, (2 Peter 3:15-16). There is a difference between something being difficult to achieve and whether or not it is possible to achieve. It may be difficult or hard for one to be a rocket scientist, but the possibility can exist. Peter said it was the untaught and unstable that distorted the scriptures difficult to understand. It would follow that a person first get taught the elementary principles of Christ and then get steadfast in his learning before he pursues the understanding of the more difficult passages of scripture.

All this is not saying that we cannot seek scriptural guidance. When the eunuch was asked by Philip if he understood what he was reading, the eunuch replied, "Well, how could I, unless someone guides me?" (Acts 8:30-39 NASB). Philip guided the Ethiopian eunuch to understand the gospel of Christ.
